Ceiling water damage repair in Denver.
A stained ceiling means water has already travelled somewhere you can't see. A sagging ceiling means it's holding weight right now.
Get everyone out from underneath and don't stand under it. Drywall holding water can release the whole load at once, and a gallon weighs eight pounds. Move furniture clear, put a bucket down, and call. We'll relieve it safely.

What causes it in Denver homes
- The bathroom above. Overflow, a failed toilet seal, or a shower pan leaking at the corner — the single most common source.
- A supply line in the floor cavity feeding an upstairs fixture.
- Roof leaks after hail — soaks the attic insulation first, then shows on the ceiling weeks later.
- HVAC condensate lines backing up in an attic air handler.
- Ice dams in winter, forcing meltwater back under shingles and into the ceiling below.
Why the stain is smaller than the damage
Water travels along joists and drywall seams before it comes through. The visible stain is where it finally emerged — the wet area above is nearly always considerably larger. That's why we open and measure the cavity rather than patching what you can see. Painting over a stain without drying what's behind it produces a ceiling that stains again and, in a few months, smells.
What we do
- 1Relieve trapped water safelyControlled release rather than waiting for it to collapse.
- 2Find the sourceThermal imaging and moisture meters to map how far it went — and to stop it recurring.
- 3Open and dry the cavityThe space between floors holds water that never dries on its own. Wet insulation comes out.
- 4Repair and finishDrywall, texture match and paint once readings confirm it's dry.
Repair or replace
A small, fully dried stain from a one-off leak can often be sealed and repainted. Drywall that sagged, softened, or lost its texture has lost integrity and comes out. Ceilings are also where a wrong call shows most — it will telegraph through the paint later.

Common questions
My ceiling is bulging with water — what do I do?
Stay out from underneath and move furniture clear. Water-loaded drywall can release its entire load at once and a gallon weighs eight pounds. Place a bucket, keep people and pets away, and call for a controlled release.
Can I just paint over a water stain on the ceiling?
Only if the cavity above is genuinely dry, which requires measurement rather than assumption. Painting over a stain that still has moisture behind it produces a returning stain and, within a few months, an odour.
How much of the ceiling has to come out?
Only as much as is wet. We map the moisture first, because the wet area is nearly always larger than the visible stain — but the aim is to cut back to dry material and no further.
Is ceiling water damage covered by insurance?
If the cause was sudden and accidental — an overflow, a burst supply line, storm damage to the roof — it typically is. A long-running slow leak usually is not, which is why the date you discovered it matters.
